  in Fort Meade\, Maryland. On the first day of the October 1973 Yom Kippur
  War\, he had an epiphany: while he and his NSA colleagues knew of the pla
 nned Arab attack against Israel days in advance\, he was astounded to lear
 n the front-line Israeli soldiers were caught by total surprise. \nGeneral
  Eli Zeira was then head of Israeli Military Intelligence. In 2017\, Gener
 al Zeira confided in Bruce that this false assessment resulted in Israel s
 uffering the loss of over 2\,600 soldiers\, most unnecessarily. General Dr
