Celebrate Black History Month with the Andrew Jr. Boy Jones Band 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 27, at the Allen Public Library, 300 N. Allen Dr.
Andrew Jr. Boy first toured with Freddie King’s Thunderbird band in 1966. Later, Andrew Jr. Boy became part of Bobby Patterson’s Mustang band, which included performances on Patterson's single releases. In 1973, Jones re-joined King's backing ensemble and played with him until King died in 1976. His 1979 single, "Blame It on Me", was hugely successful in Canada and the UK. Andrew Jr. Boy performed locally during the early 1980s, backing R.L. Griffin and Hal Harris, before finding regular work with the legendary Johnnie Taylor. In 1988, he joined Katie Webster on her iconic 1988 Swamp Boogie Queen album, and for ten years, he backed Charlie Musselwhite both in live performances and on his albums.
In 1997, Jones issued his debut solo album, I Need Time, via ISP Records. This was followed by Watch What You Say (Rounder Records), Jr. Boy Live and Gettin' Real.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Allen Public Library, the concert is free. Call 214-509-4911 for additional information.
