The Heard-Craig Center for the Arts in downtown McKinney is proud to display a collection of handmade Ukrainian Easter eggs, known as pysanky, during the month of April in honor of Easter and in support of the Ukrainian community.  The collections are on loan from Zoe Borozny and her family, from Valentina Bezny and from St. Sophia’s Ukrainian Church.

The eggs are made in the batik wax-resist technique of repeated dyeing and drawing with melted beeswax. The word “pysanka” stems from the verb pysaty, which means “to write.” Ukrainian families make pysanky as part of their Lenten traditions. Each pysanka is unique and has special meaning. Traditionally, pysanky were made in preparation for the Easter celebration, but they are also given as gifts.

The collections will be displayed from April 11, 2022 through April 29, 2022 in a FREE exhibit to support Ukrainian refugees.   Although the exhibit is free, 100% of donations will be given to St. Sophia's Church to support refugees.  We encourage everyone to secure a free ticket to the display (www.heardcraig.org under the EVENTS tab) and to donate in a show of worldwide support.  For more information, contact the Heard-Craig Center at 972-569-6909.
