Allen Heritage Guild, Texas Historic Commission and Texas Treasures Award honors the Allen Flower Shop at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 at 102 E. Main Street, Allen. Opened in 1972 and founded by Jim and the late Carolyn Kerr, Allen Flower Shop is Allen's second oldest business and is now a locally owned second generation establishment. The shop is currently operated by Ginger Kerr Collier.
Jim Kerr served on the Allen School Board for 24 Years and has an elementary named after him-Kerr Elementary. Along with Mayor Joe Farmer, Jim Kerr represents the city of Allen on the North Texas Municipal Water District Board of Directors.
The Texas Treasure Business Award (TTBA) program is an initiative of the Community Heritage Division. Created in 2005 by Senate Bill 920, authored by Sen. Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio and sponsored by Rep. Charles "Doc” Anderson of Waco, the program pays tribute to the state’s well-established businesses and their exceptional historical contributions to communities across Texas.
