Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after He defeated Ravan in the historic war in Lanka.

Symbolically, Diwali is the time to awaken the light in our etheric hearts and push away the darkness of ignorance. It is the time to request God to illuminate the intellect to enable us to detach our mind from the material allurements. To quote Swami Mukundananda, “Just as we clean our house during Diwali, we must also clean the heart to welcome the Lord.”
