Flag Day at Heritage Village-Honor the American flag at the annual Allen Flag Day Celebration at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at the historic Allen Christian Church, 352 E. St. Mary Dr.  Hear the harrowing saga of Gene Pugh’s venture into North Vietnam to rescue POWs.    A Green Beret, Sgt. Pugh was assigned to MACVSOG the highly classified organization during the Vietnam war, also known as the widow making unit.  Sgt. Pugh is the author of Surrender Not An Option, a novel based upon his dangerous reconnaissance missions into Laos, Cambodia and North Vietnam. 

Mayor Brooks has issued a proclamation for the event.

Mary Schirmer, past Regent of Bernardo de Galvez Chapter DAR, will present “I Am the Flag.”

The Allen Community Jazz Band will perform a medley of patriotic music, including America the Beautiful, American Patrol, and I’m Proud To Be An American

VFW 2195 will present and post the colors, and General Bernardo de Galvez Chapter DAR will feature a “Retirement of Colors.”   

Old and tattered flags are being collected by Heritage Guild members for a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the conclusion of the program.  Bring your deteriorated flags and properly dispose of them.

Sponsored by Allen Heritage Guild, VFW Armistice Memorial Post 2195, General Bernardo de Galvez Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and Allen Community Band, this program is free.

After the program, guests will be invited to the Depot to view the exhibits.  Hours of operation of the Heritage Center are available on the Guild website at www.allenheritageguild.org.
