Diwali, the Festival of Lights, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most popular festivals in the Hindu tradition. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Various parts of India celebrate it for various reasons:

  • Northern India - Lord Ram's return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravan

  • Southern India - Lord Krishna defeats the demon Narakasur

  • Western India - The day, Lord Vishnu, as Vaman Bhagwan, sent King Bali to rule Sutala

  • Diwali or Deepavali is celebrated one day after Narak Chaturdashi and the first day of the celebrations is called Dhanteras.
