Religion and politics, church and state—two issues our society debates whether to relegate to private discussion or examine at the highest levels of government. 

Celebrate the 250^th anniversary of the United States as Dr. Brian Franklin examines the life and times of Thomas Jefferson to illustrate the rich and complex history of these issues. This program will be hosted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Allen Public Library, 300 N. Allen Dr. 

Dr. Brian Franklin is the associate director of the SMU Center for Presidential History and an adjunct lecturer in the Clements Department of History and the University Honors Program.  With his research focusing on the religious, political, and regional 18^th and 19^th century history of the United States, he teaches courses on Texas and American history.
