The Allen Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2195 is sponsoring a POW/MIA Recognition Day event at the Allen Veterans Memorial at Bethany Lakes Park in Allen.  The event will be held at 10 AM on Friday, September 16th.  It will feature a presentation of the “Missing Man Table” by members of the Gainesville Texas VFW post.  Scheduled speakers are Steven Terrell, Mayor of Allen, and Juanita Posey former Post Commander and current member of VFW Post 2195.

Copies of the Book “America’s White Table” by Margot Theis Raven will be donated to each school in the Allen and Lovejoy ISDs by the VFW post. The White Table is set in many military dining halls as a symbol for and remembrance to service members fallen, missing, or held captive in the line of duty. Solitary and solemn, it is the table where no one will ever sit. Featured will be a reading of the names of the POW/MIA names in the North Texas area.

POW/MIA Recognition Day is a national day of observance on the 3rd Friday of September each year.  It honors those who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action.  It was established by an Act of Congress in 1979 and is one of six days per year that the POW/MIA flags is required to be flown.

Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend.

For additional information about the ceremony please contact Larry Nordgaard, Post Adjutant VFW Post 2195, at 214-763-2273.
