The Connemara Conservancy board of directors will include three new members for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. The new members are Connemara founder Amy Monier, Sherry Englande Brown and Bob Mione.

Monier and her mother, Frances Williams, founded Connemara in 1981 in response to encroaching development as a way to preserve a 72-acre portion of the family farm called The Meadow on the border of Allen and Plano. They wanted to ensure that generations to come would have a place to go to experience the wonders of nature and open space. Over three decades later, Connemara now protects more than 6,000 acres of open space throughout North Texas. Monier has served previously on the board and as board president.

Brown grew up in south Louisiana and is currently a tax attorney for the Exxon Mobil Corporation.  She began volunteering in The Meadow in 2010 and has served on the Meadow Steering Committee since 2012, assuming the position of Secretary for the Meadow Committee in 2013.  Sherry lives with her husband and three children in Allen, where she is often able to enjoy visits to the Meadow.

Mione, a native Texan and a UNT graduate, has been volunteering for Connemara since 2008, concentrating on the The Meadow and serving on the Meadow Steering Committee.  In October of 2010, he became the Connemara Meadow Manager and has focused his attention on restoration efforts and working with Boy Scouts on their Eagle projects and Girl Scouts working on their Gold Awards.

In addition to approving the new board members, the Connemara board elected the following officers for the coming year:

  • President — Mark Yarbrough
  • Vice-President — Bob Mione
  • Secretary — Scott White
  • Treasurer — Sherry Englande Brown

Yarbrough, Brown, Mione, Monier and White join Chris Ebling and Ross Obermeyer to complete the board of directors.

The board also selected October 17 as the date for Connemara’s annual fundraising gala, Into The Meadow.
