If you're not familiar with FFA or 4H, you might find it interesting to check out the Collin County Livestock Show, presented by the Collin County Junior Livestock Association.  The livestock show started Jan. 4 and will run through Saturday, Jan. 7 at Myers Park & Event Center in McKinney.

14 Collin County FFA chapters will represent schools throughout McKinney, Frisco, Plano, Allen and additional Collin County districts.  Several local 4H chapters will also attend the show.

Participants will compete in poultry, swine, sheep, goats, and cattle judging as well as horticulture and shop projects to show off a year's worth of hard work.

Admission to the event is free, and concessions and barbecue tickets can be purchased.

An Event Schedule provided by Collin County follows:

Wednesday, Jan. 4:

  • Poultry, Fryers and Breeding rabbits, arrive and judging
  • Swine judging and show

Thursday, Jan. 5:

  • Breeding Goats and Market Goats, judging and show
  • Breeding Sheep and Market Sheep, judging and show

Friday, Jan. 6:

  • Shop Project Judging
  • Beef Heifer Judging (Beef Master, Brahman, Brangus, Santa Gertrudis, Simbrah, Other American Breeds, Angus, Hereford, Red Angus, Polled Hereford, Shorthorn, Charolais, Limousin, Maine-Anjou, Simmental, Other registered breeds and commercial Heifers)
  • Horticulture judging
  • Steers Judging (American, English, Exotic)

Saturday, Jan. 7:

  • 11:00 a.m. –12:30 p.m., Bar-B-Q Lunch
  • 12:30 p.m., Awards Presentation, Auction
