Opening Night of A Christmas Carol Arrives Friday in Historic Downtown McKinney

McKinney Repertory Theatre (MRT) will raise the curtain this Friday on its beloved annual production of A Christmas Carol, marking the official start of a cherished holiday tradition now in its 19th year. Each season, new and returning audiences discover the magic of Charles Dickens’ classic tale as only MRT can tell it—through heartfelt storytelling, community spirit, and a cast filled with local talent.

This year’s production once again features the acclaimed one-hour adaptation by McKinney playwright Dr. Andrew Harris, an award-winning author and long-time MRT member whose work has been performed in Texas, New York, and London. Under the direction of Jennifer Lee and Assistant Director Marilyn Latham, the show brings together actors of all ages who volunteer their time to present a warm and meaningful retelling of Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformation.

Following the 1:30 PM matinee performances on Nov. 22 and 29, Dr. Harris will host book signings for his commemorative edition adaptation of A Christmas Carol at Neighbor Books, located just steps from the theater.

This family-friendly production (rated PG for thematic elements) runs across three festive weekends at the McKinney Performing Arts Center in the heart of downtown. Eleven performances are scheduled, including ASL interpretation at the Saturday, Nov. 22, 4:30 PM show. The second weekend coincides with McKinney’s popular Home for the Holidays festival, offering audiences the chance to enjoy the show alongside all the holiday events and activities happening on the historic square.

This run of A Christmas Carol will also mark MRT’s final production of the current season, as major renovations begin at the McKinney Performing Arts Center in January. MRT plans to return to the beloved Courtroom Theater stage in November 2026, when A Christmas Carol is expected to make its grand comeback for its 20th production.

Tickets are $14.50 for adults, $11.50 for seniors, and $9.50 for children and students ages 4–25. Group sales may be arranged through the MPAC box office at 214-544-4630.

Opening night is Friday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 PM at the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee St. Don’t miss this enchanting holiday tradition that has become a hallmark of the season in McKinney. For showtimes, details, and tickets, visit mckinneyrep.org.
