Texans Can Academies - Dallas North distributed around 65 turkeys to students and their families who otherwise may have not had one for their Thanksgiving meal. Nearly 86% of Texans Can Academies students live below the poverty line and are in need of basic necessities. 

The school hosted a drive through, or walk by, distribution outside of the campus to pass out the turkeys to the students that needed one. A small goodie bag with canned foods and non-perishable items was also given away with the turkey to enjoy with their families and friends. 

“We wanted to make sure every student at our school has the opportunity to have a lovely Thanksgiving meal,” said Rufus Johnson, Principal at Texans Can Academies - Dallas North. “We are thankful for each of our students and want to help them enjoy the holiday any way we can.”

Texans Can Academies aims to ensure every student has the opportunity to pursue their dreams while removing barriers that keep them from attaining their education. 

Texans Can Academies is a unique network of 14 dropout recovery schools located in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio. The schools are tuition-free, open enrollment, public high schools of choice serving students who have struggled in a traditional high school setting. To date, more than 171,759 youth have been given a second chance at life with the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
