Every November/December, the Collin County Soil & Water Conservation District #535 sponsors a local poster and essay contest as part of the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) and the Association of Texas Soil & Water Conservation Districts state-wide contest. The local contest is open to all K-12 students in Collin County, Texas, who are considered eligible under Texas University Interscholastic League eligibility requirements.

The theme for the 2022 Poster and Essay contest is: "Healthy Soils: Healthy Life". The theme of the contest each year is set by the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) Steward and Education Committee. The poster contest is for children 12 years of age and younger.  The essay contest is for children 18 years of age and younger with two age divisions.

Local SWCD winners will be awarded in 3 categories: Poster Contest; Junior Essay Contest; and Senior Essay Contest.  First Place winners receive $50 and a blue ribbon.  Runners-up in each of the three categories receive $25 and a red ribbon.

Contest submissions begin at the local soil and water conservation district for judging. Local winners will advance to the Area Level, with the possibility of advancing to the State Level and then on to the National Level where they will be recognized at NACD’s Annual Meeting.  For additional information please contact the Collin County Soil & Water Conservation District #535 at (972)542-0081 Ext. 3 or at collincounty@swcd.texas.gov .  Entry forms may be picked up from teachers at the local school districts if available or at the local SWCD office at 1404 N.
