Allen’s Community Theatre will hold auditions for the final play of their 2012-13 season – The Dixie Swim Club by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten. Performances will be at the historic Allen Christian Church in Allen Heritage Village on April 26 – 27 and May 3 - 4.

The Dixie Swim Club is about five southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives.

The Dixie Swim Club focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends, proving the enduring power of “teamwork,” rally around their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction.

ACT is excited to welcome Janette Oswald, Column Award Nominee, as director for this production. Ms. Oswald is seeking five women and will conduct cold readings from the script. Appointments are suggested but not required.

Auditions will be on Sunday, March 3 from 2 – 5 p.m. and Monday, March 4 from 7 – 9 p.m.

Location: The Blue House, 102 S. Allen Drive, Allen, TX 75002

Open Characters (A Southern accent is required):

Seeking 5 Females to portray characters that span the ages of early 40s to early 80s through the course of the play.

SHEREE HOLLINGER, the perennial team captain – practical, supportive and a fountain of boundless energy.

DINAH GRAYSON, the wise-cracking cynic of the group – fought her way to the top and relishes the view.

LEXIE RICHARDS, a true Southern belle who lives in Chapel Hill, NC – vain, youth-obsessed event planner for a chain of four-star hotels.

JERI NEAL MCFEELEY, the ditzy ray of sunshine of the group – perky, naïve and always sees the positive side of everything.

VERNADETTE SIMMS, a hard luck case if there ever was one – marriage and motherhood came shortly after college, a dark cloud has hovered ever since.
