While resolutions to get healthy may be popular this time of year, Allen resident Lindsay Moncada has very personal reasons she got healthy. And she wants to help others get fit.

“I always struggled with my weight,” explained Moncada, personal instructor at the new CITYROW Allen fitness studio, the first location in Texas. “Going between a size 12 and 14, I used food as my crutch. It wasn’t until I hit rock bottom that I realized I needed to get my life together. Not having worked out in years, I started boxing two days a week and changed my eating habits. Slowly my weight started to come off. More importantly, every day I saw my mental health improve. I increased working out to three days a week, then four. Finally, after all my hard work, I was in a size 2 jeans, healthy and happy. My kids saw a whole new mom who was running around with them, jumping on the trampoline and playing sports.”

Founded in New York City in 2014, CITYROW pairs a personal instructor with rowing, strength and mobility exercises in a 50-minute, dynamic, high-intensity interval training class, creating a workout that works differently for each individual. Each stroke on the rowing machine utilizes 85 percent of the body's muscles – legs, core and arms, and increases aerobic capacity and efficiency to burn calories, while exerting less pressure on the body's joints than traditional cardio exercises.

“Fitness got my life back,” said Moncada. “I wake up every day knowing it’s a new day to start fresh. Because of how much fitness changed me, I wanted to help others, so I worked hard to become a certified personal trainer. Here at CITYROW, it may be a group fitness setting, but to me it’s a one-on-one relationship in a group setting.”

Featuring 20 rowers, CITYROW Allen welcomes individuals of all fitness levels to the studio for an epic full body workout. The studio, the first of its type in Texas, is located within McDermott Towne Crossing, 1314 W. McDermott Drive at Alma in Allen.  “CITYROW is for all fitness levels,” said David Regelean, owner of CITYROW Allen. “Each individual determines how much strength and effort they put into the workout while having a personal instructor to encourage them. We are very happy our first location is in Allen because of the great community involvement.”
