Allen ISD will conduct a School Board Academy for citizens interested in running for an elected position on the Board of School Trustees.
The academy will be held at the Allen ISD Administration Building, 612 E. Bethany Dr., from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m.
The program, which is conducted by current board members and Allen ISD school administrators, is designed to familiarize potential candidates with the basic operation of the school district, the role of school board members and the election process.
The program is offered for free to all Allen residents who are eligible to run for a school board seat. Participants must register in advance by Monday, Feb. 18. Register by emailing Sandi Osborn at sandi_osborn@allenisd.org or by calling 972-727-7115.
Board places 4 and 5, currently held by Lois Lindsey and Gary Stocker, will be on the May 11 ballot. Filing for the positions begins Wednesday, Jan. 30, and closes Friday, March 1. Monday, April 29, is the first day for early voting. Early voting ends Tuesday, May 7.
