Fall is in the air, and it's a great time to reconnect with nature. Green River Preserve, a Western North Carolina summer camp, is hosting an fun outdoor event in Dallas on October 12. Connect with nature on a gentle naturalist hike and geocashing adventure on the Campion Trail from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., with the staff from Green River Preserve. Explore the terrain and wildlife of the Texas prairie and participate in the world’s largest scavenger hunt.

Green River Preserve aims to inspire participants to continue engaging with their natural surroundings after each event and hopefully connect with one another to organize additional outings. The event on Sunday is part of the GRP Road Show, a series of events across the country to pull together current campers, alumni and new friends and help them reconnect with nature.
As an extension of the summer program, the GRP Road Show brings a bit of camp to each destination. “We have several camp families who live in the Dallas area,” said Sara Huffman, administrative director at Green River Preserve, “And we specifically chose to spend the afternoon on the Campion Trail because it’s a perfect example of an outdoor resource that is easily accessible and user-friendly.”
Green River Preserve is a summer camp located in Cedar Mountain, NC, on a 3,400 acre private wildlife preserve in the Blue Ridge Mountains. This extraordinary natural setting inspires campers to have a greater understanding of themselves, their environment and their fellow man. Unplugged from computers, television, video games and cell phones, campers have a chance to reconnect with nature, learn their own strengths and find their inner voice. Every day at Green River Preserve, bright, curious, and creative campers thrive in “Nature’s classroom” as they learn from a community where ideas, creativity and discovery are celebrated.
"Every year, our kids can't wait to get to GRP,” said Sam Bloom, a camper parent and Dallas local, “And then after camp, they talk about it all year long. We've found that our kids come back from Green River Preserve more centered, screen detoxed and they have a greater appreciation for the outdoors."
