Allen’s Community Theatre presents a musical, The Magical Land Of Oz, based on the L. Frank Baum classic book. Performances are August 12-28, 2016.
When Dorothy’s house squashes the Wicked Witch of the East, she and her dog Toto set out on the adventure that has charmed millions. With her friends, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and Tin Woodsman, this remarkable journey takes them to the great Oz, who will only grant them their wishes if they rid the world of the Wicked Witch of the West.
The production is a multi-media treat for your senses. A continually changing projected backdrop allows for moving scenery behind the actors. As they move, the scene moves. Oz is depicted digitally with all his smoke and magic.
Costumes are made of re-purposed, recycled materials. Monkey Men wings are discarded magazine pages and kitty litter boxes. Field of poppies are fashioned out of cookie jars. Holding true to the original story book, Dorothy’s slippers are silver and not red.
The play was written by Tim Kelly with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. It is directed by Robin Coulonge with musical direction by Melissa Hartman Couture and produced by special arrangements with Pioneer Drama Services.
