Do you need a job?  Help is available for this challenging task of "job search" through the St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry's Wednesday morning meetings February 15 to March 29, 9-10:30 AM, at St. Jude Parish in Allen, TX.  The new seven-week Expert Speaker Series will provide tips & tools for successful job searches as well as lifelong career management.  The DFW Metroplex-based speakers at these programs will offer tips on "how to" incorporate LinkedIn and CareerDFW.org into employment searches and career strategies, find the perfect job, network the old-fashioned was as well as cope with loss.  This series will also offer an in-depth presentation on successful career management plus a panel of three job recruiters who will address "how to" reach the corporate recruiter.

Topic:       Achieving Job Search Success through LinkedIn

Speaker:   Cindy Baccus, Social Media Consultant.  For the past 22 years, Ms. Baccus has been dedicated to sales and marketing with a special focus on social media marketing.  Ms. Baccus, who earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, is a John Maxwell certified speaker, trainer, coach, and mentor and holds a Hootsuite Ambassador title.  She is the marketing guru for Outta the Box Marketing, a company that trains clients in successfully using all aspects of social media marketing.  In February 2014, Ms. Baccus launched her first book, titled Facebook Made Easy - A Quick-Start, Step-by-Step Guide to Facebook, about Facebook personal profiles.

Topic:       Career Management - Being a Process, not a Product, in the Job Market

Speaker:   Elizabeth Lions, President, Elizabeth Lions Consulting, LLC.  The author of two books, Recession Proof Yourself and I Quit!  Working for You Isn't Working for Me, Ms. Lions has designed and developed leadership and career courses, webinars and even a radio show titled, Leadership Lessons from the Lioness.  Ms. Lions has been quoted in Yahoo, the Ladders, and the Dice job board.  Her words have reached as far as the front page of the Philadelphia Tribune, PBS, CBS Money Watch, Dale Carnegie, and John Tesh's blog. Ms. Lions started her career as a headhunter on the west coast, working with leading companies such as Microsoft, Wells Fargo, EBay and Intel.

Topic:       How to Find Your Ideal Job and Be the Perfect Candidate for It

Speaker:   Yoram Solomon, PhD, Creative Teamwork Expert, Author, Speaker, and Trainer.  Dr. Solomon's PhD dissertation addressed the importance of learning the cognitive processes that lead to generating creative ideas.  This topic was inspired by his years-long observations that people are more creative in start-up environments than in large companies.  Dr. Solomon has published five books, holds nine patents, has written more than 100 articles, is a columnist for Inc. Magazine and Innovation Excellence Weekly and is one of the creators of Wi-Fi and USB. During his tenure at Texas Instruments (May 2002 -November 2008), he was named "Texas Instruments Great Innovator." He was ranked #12 among the Top 40 Innovation Bloggers of 2015 and 2016. In 2015, Dr. Solomon was elected to the Plano Independent School Board in Plano, TX.  In addition, he hosted the first TEDxPlano (Technology, Entertainment & Design) conference in 2014.

Topic:       Coping with Loss

Speaker:   Father Russ Mower, Pastoral Administrator, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Dallas, TX.  Father Mower discerned a call to the priesthood after the death of his wife in the fall of 2009.  Following his studies at Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, MA, he was ordained a transitional deacon in August 2014 and a Roman Catholic priest in August 2015.  A member of St. Jude Parish in Allen, TX since 1997, he has three grown daughters and four grandchildren.  Father Mower graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in Fire Protection Engineering.

Topic:       Jump Start Your Job Search

Speaker:   Jeff Morris, Founder, CareerDFW.org and CareerUSA.org.  In 2008, Mr. Morris founded CareerDFW.org, a website created to assist the unemployed and underemployed in the DFW area.  In 2012, he launched CareerUSA.org, a website to help those outside the DFW area.  Also in 2012, Mr. Morris published his first book titled What I've Learned about YOUR JOB SEARCH That You May Not Know.  In addition, Mr. Morris facilitates the North Dallas/Plano Career Focus Group which meets every Friday.  Over 850 people have found their next great opportunity while attending this group.

Topic:       Networking the Old-Fashioned Way

Speaker:   Jay Arbetter, Senior Vice President - Wealth Management, USB.  Mr. Arbetter frequently facilitates his "Networking the Old-Fashioned Way" workshops at the Jewish Family Service where he serves on the board of directors.  In addition, Mr. Arbetter regularly facilitates these workshops for other groups throughout the DFW Metroplex.  For more than 28 years, Mr. Arbetter has navigated his clients through the financial markets.  He is passionate about financial planning, wealth transfer and wealth preservation strategies.  He serves as Senior Vice President - Wealth Management for USB where he creates high quality growth and income portfolios for his clients.  A 1975 graduate of the University of North Texas where he earned a BBA degree in accounting, Mr. Arbetter has also earned the designations for Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor, the Senior Portfolio Manager, and Certified Special Needs Advisor.

 

The St. Jude Career Alliance is a ministry helping college students, career builders and those who are unemployed/underemployed to develop individual career strategies that meets at 9:00 AM most Wednesdays at St. Jude Parish in Allen, TX. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge.

 

St. Jude Catholic Church is located at 1515 North Greenville Avenue, between Exchange Parkway and Stacy Road.  Attendees should park in the northeast lot and use the entrance between the church and the parish offices.

 

In addition to speakers and presentations at weekly Wednesday morning meetings, the St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry offers training in job search skills, support groups, and job hunting resources.
