The St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry in Allen, TX will be presenting a new eight-session Expert Speaker Series beginning with its Wednesday morning meeting on March 30 that scrutinizes the steps required for successful job searches.  The DFW Metroplex-based speakers at these programs will provide guidelines on handling job loss, targeted job search strategies, resume & interview techniques, working with recruiters, and age challenges.  There will also be tips on "how to" incorporate LinkedIn into employment searches and career strategies.

Topic:      Handling Job Loss.

Speaker:  Angela Gwinn, Director of Pastoral Care, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Plano, TX. Ms. Gwinn holds a Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University (Garland, TX) and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from Oakland University (Rochester, MI).  After a 25-year career in Industrial Sales & Marketing, Ms. Gwinn decided to pursue her passion for helping others through their life's challenges.  A licensed professional counselor, Ms. Gwinn's experience to date includes work in a behavioral hospital on the adolescent unit, with a local school district, and with public mental health counseling adults and children.

Topic:      Targeted Job Search That Works.

Speaker:  Paula Calise, Principal, Linked Executive Research. Ms. Calise's career is punctuated by rapid advancement at IBM and TXU.  Prior to launching her recruiting practice, she was a Sales & Marketing VP for a nationwide consulting company.  Today, Ms. Calise places mid and top leadership in Dallas' large and mid-cap companies. She is known for her generosity of pay-it-forward networking and coaching.  A founding principle of Ms. Calise's recruiting practice is to be "candidate friendly," leading to untold hours each year of providing pro bono career coaching.  Ms. Calise holds a degree in Human Resources from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from the University of Houston.

At its Wednesday morning meeting on February 17, the St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry will begin its intensive career workshop series that is designed to enable each participant to create an individual career strategy.  The four-week curriculum presents a seven-step process that targets three key groups: college students, career builders and those who are unemployed/underemployed.  These workshop sessions begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at noon.   

 

The four-week program incorporates the St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry's "fast track" curriculum for the seven-step series based on the Crossroads Career(R) Network Program (www.crossroadscareer.org), which is a nationwide Christian-based job-search process. A fifth session - a three-hour comprehensive review - has been added to enable participants to fill in and complete any topic areas they might have missed during one of the earlier sessions. 

 

"Since we introduced our 'fast track' program in July 2014, we have discovered it can be equally enriching for college students and those already involved in the career advancement process," said Jack Bick, Volunteer Coordinator for the  St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry.  "As a result, our career workshop program now focuses on three specific participant positions: college students, career builders and those who are unemployed/underemployed.  We are pleased to report that - to date - our Seven-Step Crossroads Career Series has helped more than 225 unemployed/underemployed participants to land new jobs."

 

The St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry Crossroads Career "fast track" career workshop program will be open to all.  It is recommended that participants purchase a Crossroads Career workbook for $15.00.

 

The four-week Crossroads Career "fast track" curriculum will be presented at St. Jude Parish in Allen, TX on four successive Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to noon, beginning on February 17 and concluding on March 9.  The three-hour comprehensive review is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16, beginning at 9:00 AM. The seven-steps and their corresponding topics to be discussed during each of the three-hour sessions will be:

Speaker: Jeff Morris, Founder, CareerDFW.org and CareerUSA.org. In 2008, Mr. Morris founded CareerDFW.org, a website created to assist the unemployed and under-employed in the DFW area.  In 2012, he launched CareerUSA.org, a website to help those outside the DFW area.  Also in 2012, Mr. Morris published his first book titled What I've Learned about YOUR JOB SEARCH That You May Not Know.  In addition, Mr. Morris facilitates the North Dallas/Plano Career Focus Group which meets every Friday.  Over 850 people have found their next great opportunity while attending this group.

St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen, TX will host its 9th annual Parish Carnival the weekend of September 11-13.  The three-day event will include a midway with rides and concessions set up by Talley Amusements in a field south of the parish campus; inflatables set up by Jumper Bee Entertainment in the courtyard and front parking lot; burgers, hot dogs and other popular food items provided by the Knights of Columbus; and an ice cream social and art show with live entertainment set up in the Parish Hall in honor of the 125th Anniversary of the Diocese of Dallas. 

The hours for the 2015 St. Jude Parish Carnival on each of the three days will be:

Friday, September 11 - 04:00-11:00 PM, Midway only

Saturday, September 12

  • Noon to 08:00 PM - Parish Courtyard Activities
  • Noon to 11:00 PM - Midway

Sunday, September 13

  • 01:00-03:00 PM - Ice Cream Social and Art Show with Live Entertainment in the Parish Hall
  • 01:00-10:00 PM - Midway

Separate tickets will be required for the Talley Amusements Midway and the St. Jude Parish Courtyard activities.  Two ATMs will be available on the Midway because sfood will be sold on a cash only basis.  If needed, overflow shuttle parking will be at Allen High School.

Proceeds from the 9th Annual St. Jude Parish Carnival will be donated to St. Cecilia School in Oak Cliff and Santa Clara School in Dallas to provide improved classrooms, grounds and supplies.  In addition, St. Jude Parish will be assisting with educational needs within the Allen, TX community.

Speaker:   Beth Ray, a Collin County-Based Community Leader Who Specializes in Team and Individual Development.

A resident of McKinney, TX, Ms. Ray summarizes her topic: "We have very few options for control of our lives.  Circumstances, other people and daily unexpected developments throw our nicely planned lives into chaos, permanent change or are significantly altered.  We are asked to adjust or accept interruptions and go on.  How we choose to deal with 'life coming to the door' either produces frustration, anger, hopelessness or an ability to bounce back.  We can control very little, but we can choose every response, action and emotion to grow and learn."  Ms. Ray is currently employed at the Independent Bank in McKinney.  She has also been actively involved within the local community as a project coordinator, advocate and liaison for various organizations, including the McKinney Independent School District.  Ms. Ray is a certified Relationship & Marriage Coach and has been an active Court Appointed Special Advocate for the Texas State Family Court in Collin County.  She was also the keynote speaker at the 2009 International Women's Conference held in Mexico City, Mexico.

"To date, our seven-step Crossroads Career series has helped more than 225 unemployed participants to land new jobs," said Jack Bick, Volunteer Coordinator for the St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry. "Since we introduced our 'fast track' curriculum series in July 2014, we have discovered that it can be equally enriching for college students and those already involved in the career advancement process."

The St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry Crossroads Career "fast track" curriculum series will be open to all.  Participants will be required to purchase a Crossroads Career workbook for $15.00.

The five-week Crossroads Career "fast track" curriculum will be presented at St. Jude Parish in Allen, TX on five successive Wednesdays at 9 a.m., beginning on June 3 and concluding on July 1.  The seven steps and their corresponding topics to be discussed during each of the five three-hour sessions will be:

Elizabeth Lions, Dallas-based executive recruiter, will conduct a leadership development seminar sponsored by the St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry in Allen, TX on Saturday morning, April 25.  Ms. Lions' presentation will outline the steps required for facilitating the transition from individual contributor to leader. 

"The transition from individual contributor to leader can be the most challenging and rewarding part of an employee's career," said Ms. Lions.  "However, there are some steps to take in order to ensure success as individuals grow into their leadership osition.  There is a vast difference between leading and managing people.  Managers are task focused while leaders determine the vision, goals and objectives needed while creating an environment which enables the team to grow and thrive." 

In her April 25 presentation, Ms. Lions will address three key topics related to leadership development:

  • Moving from Individual Contributor to Leader
  • Leadership Foundations
  • Leadership Visionary Process

Ms. Lions is president of Elizabeth Lions Consulting, LLC.  Her client list includes leaders of Intel, eBay, Microsoft, Wells Fargo and Fiserv.  Ms. Lions also has her own radio show titled "Leadership Lessons from the Lioness" on Plaid for Women.  She is the author of two books:  (1) Recession-Proof Yourself (2009) and (2) I Quit, Why Working for You Isn't Working for Me (2012).   

The April 25 St. Jude Career Alliance Ministry Saturday morning seminar will be held in the lecture hall from 9 to 11:30 AM at St. Jude Parish in Allen, TX.  This workshop is open to everyone and there is no charge.  Participants should bring a note pad and pen.

Speaker: Mark Zwartynski, Chairman of The Mark Andrew Group & '44 Uprising Productions.  Mr. Zwartynski has spent 20 years working in the National Basketball Association with the Indiana Pacers and the Dallas Mavericks.  During his tenure with the Dallas Mavericks, Mr. Zwartynski created the $180 million American Airlines Center Naming Agreement and the $7 million + Ticketmaster agreement.  He established the first automated sales and marketing staffs in professional and collegiate sports as well as the first Email Blast System in all sports.  He has also produced over 2,000 sports and entertainment national broadcasts over television, radio (satellite and terrestial) and the Internet.

Speaker:   Angela Gwinn, Director of Pastoral Care at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Plano, TX.  Ms. Gwinn holds a Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University (Garland, TX) and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from Oakland University (Rochester, MI).  After a 25-year career in Industrial Sales & Marketing, Ms. Gwinn decided to pursue her passion for helping others through their life's challenges.  A licensed professional counselor, Ms. Gwinn's experience to date includes work in a behavioral hospital on the adolescent unit, with a local school district, and with public mental health counseling adults and children.
