Allen was founded by the Houston and Texas Central Railroad (H&TC) in 1874.
Celebrations will be held on Saturday, March 5 from 11:30 to 2:30 p.m., at the Allen Heritage Center/Depot, which is located at 100 East Main.
At 11:30 pm, historian Elden Baker will discuss the importance of the arrival of the railroad to this region. Mr. Baker is Director of Anna Depot & Museum.
At 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. – Scavenger Hunt - “Searching for Allen’s History,” visit 20 locations and obtain a page at each site that can be compiled into a book. Registration for this event is on-line at “allenheritage.org”. Cost is $15 per car.
Lovejoy High School drama students will re-enact the famous Sam Bass robbery and shoot out at 2 p.m.
Ring the Ebenezer Allen steam train bell; and take your picture as part of the Sam Bass gang.
Come to the depot and bring the family to learn more about Allen’s train history.
