Exploring the Archaic and Late Precontact in North-Central Texas-Learn about the exciting archaeological discoveries unearthed at the Turkey Peak Reservoir Excavations with Zachary Overfield at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Allen Public Library.  The excavations of 5 precontact sites from the Early Archaic to the Late Prehistoric will be presented. A bison kill site will be featured along with evidence of a potentially extensive animal butchery area.

Zack Overfield serves as a cultural resources practice leader for the South-Central Region and is a senior archaeologist and principal investigator. With over 13 years of experience in cultural resource management, Zack specializes in guiding projects through complex environmental compliance processes and regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act, and National Historic Preservation Act.

He has led major archaeological investigations for projects across Texas, Nebraska, and the Southeast, balancing environmental compliance with the advancement of renewable energy development. Passionate about preserving cultural heritage while enabling a clean energy future, Zack is committed to the integration of archaeology and sustainable practices.

 

With a master’s in anthropology from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor’s in sociology with an anthropology emphasis from Stephen F. Austin State University, Zack is a registered professional archaeologist and an active member of the Council of Texas Archaeologists.
