AHS After Prom in Need of Donations

Organizers of Allen High School’s After Prom are asking for donations to help provide food, entertainment and prizes to the more than 900 students expected to attend.

The event aims to provide a chaperoned, drug and alcohol free environment for seniors and their dates after the prom.  It will be held April 25 at the Allen High School cafeteria from 12 am to 5 am.

In addition to food and entertainment, organizers hope to provide prizes to 500 attendees ranging from small refrigerators and microwaves that can be used in college dorm rooms to movie passes and gift cards to area stores and entertainment venues.  Scholarships will also be given, though they will be paid directly to the winning student’s college and not to the student themselves.  Monetary donations are ideal because they can be used to purchase whatever items are needed, said Jodi Driver, chairman of the event’s committee.  The approximate cost of the event - which has been held since 1993- is more than $50,000.

About 900 students are expected to attend this year out of a graduating class of nearly 1400 students.
“No donation is too small”, Driver said.  “If we all work together and give a little, it will add up so we can give our students some great prizes for their future”.  If you would like more information or if you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation please contact Jodi Driver at jo.driver@att.net.
