The countdown is on—it’s to the point where it’s pretty much too late to order Christmas gifts and holiday items online (unless you’re willing to pay an arm and a leg for shipping), and the options are becoming more and more limited. So, we encourage you to branch out and support your local businesses to finish that last-minute holiday shopping.

Let’s be honest: shopping malls are alright, but the parking situations are a nightmare this time of year and there’s hardly any space to shop comfortably.

Since we’re all about connecting local businesses and potential customers, as well as providing relevant, timely and informative community-focused news, we want you to know some of the most unique places to pick up Christmas gifts in the days leading up to December 25, as told by folks in your town’s Economic Development Corporation or Chamber of Commerce.

Here's what one Allen official said:

Tracey Cline of the Allen Economic Development Corporation recommends Watters Creek specialty shops like Oil & Vinegar and Sublime Chocolate for foodies, and shopping at Altar’d State for the fashionable women in your life. Charming Charlie always has unique accessory finds like bags, jewelry and scarves.

The Allen Community Outreach Resale Shop locations on E. Main Street or the Treasure Chest at 301 W. Boyd Drive would be great places to stop in for stocking stuffers and good bargains.

As for the Village at Allen/Fairview, Cline said Kirkland’s and HomeGoods would offer good finds for those passionate about decorating or Rally House for sports fans you’re giving to this season.

For those who love to receive the gift of food or sweet treats, consider Elke’s Market Café’s tasty dessert offerings, or even a gift card from the City’s new Cracker Barrel store, Rudy’s BBQ or La Finca Chiquita in historic downtown Allen.

Hopefully this will give you an idea of what to get for the people in your life who have everything. Happy shopping, and more importantly, happy holidays!
