During the 1980s, the Dallas landscape was vibrant.  Streets were blocked while episodes of the popular television series Dallas were filmed, and the Dallas Arts District was booming. The Adolphus Hotel was being revitalized while high-rise office buildings were popping up around it. Plus, Collin County was experiencing a massive housing boom. The scenery was transformed with lightning speed, and Nancy Smith was reporting on it.

Nancy Smith will share her experiences at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Allen Public Library.

If you wanted to know where the stars were—like where Larry Hagman and Victoria Principal were dining—all you needed to do was check Nancy’s columns.   “This is the generation that made Dallas an international city,” Smith says, explaining why she chose to write about this decade over any other. “I feel like I’m kind of a cheerleader for the whole generation.”

Nancy is the author of Dallas International with J.R. Ewing: History of Real Dallasites in the Spotlight of “Dallas,” Southfork and the 1980’s Gold Rush.
