Actor Brad Leland introduces Friday Night Lights (2004) at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the Allen Public Library.  Brad played the role of John Aubrey in the film and was cast as Buddy Garrity in the television series.  Directed by Peter Berg, the film also features Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, Tim McGraw, Amber Heard, Garret Hedlund, and of course Connie Britton. Brad and Connie were the only two main characters from the film to appear in the television series. He played three different characters in the Number 1 show in the world at the time, the television series “Dallas”, in his first screen Actors’ Guild union show and appeared in Walker Texas Ranger as also seven different characters.  His feature film was the famous western, Silverado..

After four decades as an actor, director, and producer in the theatre, he reappeared after a 15 year absence to the theatrical stage as Scrooge in The Christmas Carol at the Tony winning equity theatre, the Dallas Theatre CenterHe completed 55 performances in 30 days, and said, “It was one of the greatest experiences of his theatrical life.”   Having appeared in over 200 films and television shows, Brad was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Gulf Coast Film and Video Festival in 2014.

When queried if the filming in Texas was authentic, Brad observes, “Everything was always on location, there was never a set. It was always a real place: a real restaurant, a real home, a real apartment, a real parking lot, a real stadium, a real school.”

An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, Brad played in the Plano Wildcats team, where he was a member of the State Champion football team in1972. 

Brad’s motto is, these five words, in this order, Faith, Family, Friends, Fun and Fortitude.
