Treat yourself to an entertaining Texas Blues journey, sailing from the 1940s to today with the Wanda King Big Blues Band at the Allen Public Library. This free program is offered at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 21, and admission is free.

The audience will be treated with tunes made famous by blues icons like T-Bone Walker, Albert Collins, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Freddie King, Johnny Winter and more.

Considered one of the cradles of blues music, numerous pioneers and influential innovators of this genre have called Texas their home. In 1947, T-Bone Walker released Call It Stormy Monday (But Tuesday Is Just as Bad), and this song ushered in a new era for the genre. In 1961, Freddie King’s “Hide Away” rocked America, and British Blues artists like Eric Clapton soon began to emulate Freddie’s style.

Wanda King has produced three CDs: From A Blues Point of View, Songs In The Key Of Blues, and Bridges.

Can’t be there in person? The program will also be streamed live on ACTV. Find viewing options at Watch ACTV or view online at  ACTV.org or YouTube.com/AllenCityTV
