The Allen Community Jazz Band will perform as part of the Allen Public Library’s Veterans Day program at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 10.
Anna DiGiovanni Janis will be the special guest of honor. Serving as a WAVE (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II, she is the recipient of numerous awards for her heroism and bravery. The Jazz Band will perform Anchors Aweigh from the US Navy Band in honor of Ms. Janis’ service to the United States. All veterans will be honored at the concert.
VFW 2195 will open the program by presenting the colors. General Bernardo de Galvez Chapter NSDAR will provide refreshments after the program.
The concert will include familiar patriotic selections as well as recent popular tunes.
As part of the Bands celebration of the 225th anniversary of the Marine Band, the performance will include the Marine’s Hymn.
Mark Woodard on alto sax will be featured on God Bless the USA and Bob Burnham, trombone, will solo on Stevie Wonders Isn’t’ She Lovely.
Big Band favorites will include American Patrol, In the Mood, Little Brown Jug, and Sentimental Journey.
