Love music history?  Radio personality George Gimarc will discuss outstanding songs that have been largely forgotten at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, January 18, at the Allen Public Library. 

From Big Band to Rockabilly to Rock-n-Roll, George can readily recite the label and year a group made a recording and its market value. The 1995 Time Life documentary covering the growth and development of rock 'n' roll from the early 1950s to the mid '90s, called on George’s expertise for the series.

In March 1977, George recognized that that there was a void in the marketplace and a yearning for new sounds. He was attracted to the energy and humor of the punk rock movement.   A college student then, George became a disc jockey on the University of North Texas radio station KNTU.

His program became known as The Rock & Roll Alternative, one of the first regular New Wave or Punk Radio shows in the United States.  This program was responsible for introducing acts such as R.E.M., The Go-Go's, U2, The Sex Pistols, Devo, The B-52's, and hundreds of others to the Dallas-Ft. Worth listening audience. 

In 1980, he moved his program to commercial radio, KZEW, launching a new chapter in radio and musical history.

Later, George hosted The Lost Tapes on KRLD-AM (1080) where he played obscure records, after imbuing his audience with equally obscure nuggets of musical trivia.
