Are you ready for a night of rollicking, hand-clapping bluegrass tunes?  Then let the soul of the Appalachians stir your spirit when Alan Tompkins & Friends perform old-time favorites as well as modern tunes at 7:30 pm Friday, January 31, at Allen Heritage Village’s Allen Christian Church, 252 E. St. Mary Drive.

Banjo and bass player Alan Tompkins will be joined by a remarkable lineup of musical colleagues.  The concert will feature a talented ensemble of guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and vocal artists.  With Alan’s masterful banjo playing and deep groove on bass, the band will deliver heartfelt traditional acoustic melodies. The rich harmonies, skillful instrumentation, and infectious spirit of live bluegrass music are sure to stir the audience.

A native of the farming and coal mining country of western Kentucky, Alan grew up steeped in the sounds of classic country, gospel, and bluegrass music. Texas country artist Deryl Dodd inspired him to play live music again. With a passion for bluegrass, the music of his home state, Alan was motivated to learn banjo, upright bass, and other instruments used in traditional bluegrass.

Alan had the privilege of sharing the stage with many other talented musicians and singers, including GRAMMY® winner Rusty Goodman of the Happy Goodman Family.
A graduate of Glenville State College, Alan holds a bachelor's degree in bluegrass music. He also earned an associate degree in bluegrass and certificate in audio recording from the Kentucky School of Bluegrass & Traditional Music.

Sponsored by the Allen Public Library, the concert is free.  Call 214-509-4911 for further information.
