Dr. Robert Saldaña, author of the award-winning Tejano Experience, will speak at the Allen Public Library 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 21. Earning acclaim from the prestigious Next Generation Indie Book Awards, Tejano Experience is a case study in Spanish-American and Mexican American genealogy. This book resulted from the author’s efforts to find more information about himself, his family, and his fellow Tejanos.
A subculture within the Hispanic and Latino communities, Tejanos possess many unique cultural and family traditions that set them apart. Thus, tracing ancestries is a daunting task for them. Dr. Saldaña will share how he overcame obstacles while researching his ancestry. As a result of his efforts, he captured family stories which are often overlooked. In addition, he stresses the importance of putting them into print.
A Texas resident, Dr. Saldaña holds an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing and a Doctoral Degree of Optometry.
