Dr. Howard Tigelaar, author of How Transistor Area Shrank by 1 Million Fold, will discuss the amazing story of the development of Integrated Circuits at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at the Allen Public Library.  Learn about the constant stream of incredible inventions that reduced the area of IC chips by half every 3 to 4 years, and the brilliant scientists and engineers who produced those wonders that allowed IC area shrinking.

To Howard, this the technology is amazing – almost miraculous.  Common sense says millions of electronic switches (transistors) would not fit on silicon chips the size of a thumbnail in our laptops and cell phones.

Howard Tigelaar earned a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Illinois and was employed at Texas Instruments as a thin film deposition and etch engineer.  After transitioning into process integration, he led groups of engineers and technicians that developed manufacturing flows for next generation integrated circuit chips.   Howard is also coauthor on a number of published articles and patents.

Can’t be there in person? The program will also be streamed live on ACTV. Find viewing options at Watch ACTV or view online at  ACTV.org or YouTube.com/AllenCityTV
